Motto: Dulcius Ex Asperis (Sweeter After Difficulties)

Badge: A bee on a thistle.

The armorial badge which all members of the Clan are entitled to wear, consists of a bee and thistle encircled with a strap and buckle, bearing the motto –Dulcius Ex Asperis (Sweeter After Difficulties)

Origin of Name: Son of Fergus (MacFhearguis in Gaelic).

The Gaelic ” Mac Fhearguis” is often translated as “son of the angry” the angry being Fergus who is thought to have lived in the North of Scotland early in Scottish history.

 

Plant Badge: Little Sunflower. Sprig of Poplar.

The plant badge, which may be worn in the bonnet or pinned onto the dress is a sprig of Poplar.

 

The Tartan: The Fergusson tartan which is worn, dates from before 1850, when it was reproduced by Thomas Smibert in┬áhis book “The Clans of the Highlands of Scotland“.
